This has been mentioned in an earlier post in the Newsletter but is worth repeating. This is such a clever location finder app - and potentially invaluable in an emergency to enable rescuers to find you. The developers have divided the world into 3m squares and given each square a unique combination of three words like: dumpling-piano-visage. You can then tell the ambulance, mountain rescue service etc the words and they can easily find you - it's as accurate as using GPS coordinates. Download it from the AppStore of free - and let's hope you never need to use it!
Link to app. Ian Mason It's about 3 years old, not had much use and in perfect working order. I’ve just bought a cord-less one, so if anyone in the Parish would like my old one, please contact me, Ian Mason on 07973 793089.
Thanks for everyone’s enduring patience, and sorry about last Sunday lunchtime – no one told us the scaffolders were coming, so we couldn’t make any arrangements.
The basic ‘big roof’ major construction is finished, but there is a lot more to do out there. Before the next phase commences, I see we’ve accumulated quite a lot of good, usable timber outside. Some of it is reserved for building work, but if anyone is looking for wood, please get in touch and I’ll happily point out what you can raid for your own projects. I would much rather it go to local use than recycling or landfill. Russ Payne Thursday 8th April at 2.30pm Timothy Walker will talk about Gardening in the 21st Century. The talk has been devised to meet the many requests of the future of gardening in the UK. This has been stimulated by the changes in our weather and climate. This talk looks at the many ways that gardeners can reduce their impact on the world’s natural resources and at the same time help those plants whose habitat is evolving faster than they can. The talk is about much more than global warning and using peat!
We have recently cleared our pond out and now have some spare iris and water lily plants if anyone is interested. Plants will need to be potted up. Contact Lindsay Lewis 07768 347974
Also beware of another international scam - emails from a fake DPD delivery notice requesting your card details to get a delivery released, including a card authorisation pop up. Someone then phones up pretending to be from your bank warning you’ve been scammed. All very official sounding. Thanks Lindsay I asked Andrew Liddiard, the owner and farmer of Steeds Farm, what his plans were for the hedge along Coxwell Road and he replied;
The Hedge was coppiced for 2 reasons:-
It will reshoot of its own accord and then any gaps will be planted up. Much Love Annabelle Good evening, it has been brought to my attention by a couple of my customers who have received an email from ' Royal Mail' saying that there has been an attempted delivery of an item. Please be aware that this is a scam on a national level as Royal Mail wouldn't operate in this manner.
Best wishes Paul the postie After many years of ups and mostly downs, our insurers have, with the aid of 7 months of level monitoring, decided that the kitchen wing has ceased to break away from the main building.
A contractor has been appointed and repairs are scheduled to start w/c 15th March*, this will be followed by decorators in W/C 2nd April. This will allow the Reading Room to be ready as a polling station on the 6th May and allow plenty of time to spring clean before, hopefully, we can then return rejuvenated to our Parish Hall. Please be aware that there are likely to be some hold ups in the road as scaffolding and other plant is delivered and removed to the Reading Room. Since COVID has hit, we have been unable to meet as villagers and it will be great to get together to celebrate our village and welcome the many newcomers. My heartfelt thanks to the Great Coxwell Support Group for all their efforts during this crisis.
